Located in a residential garden in Voorburg, the Netherlands, this timber construction designed to age with time, visually integrating itself in the garden. The design was influenced by several conditions that exist – the client wants to keep the brick warehouse in the small garden and had budget limitations. The architects constructed the contemporary garden pavilion with limitations in height and footprint because the building was to be built free of permit and they used sliding blinds to draw in the necessary light amount and to open the interior space to surrounding garden views.

Significantly updating the use of free-standing enclosed space, garden pavilion features a deck connects to the brick warehouse that helps create the sequence space in the garden, constructing an exciting play of volume. Inside the garden pavilion, there is enough space for a kitchen, bathroom and an office / guest bedroom. Both spaces are separated by a visual using a red background. Storage space is a line on one wall, allowing for open floor plans. This is a perfect solution for merging office and guest space.
